Translation of Marathi Abhanga ' je kaa ranjale gaanjale'

The great Abhanga by Santa Tukaarama

(je kaa ranjale gaanjale, tyaasi mhane jo aapule)

one who says his own to the ones who are deprived

(to chi saadhu oLakhaawaa, deva tethechi jaaNaawaa)

Identify him and him only as a saint/seeker , locate the god there only

(mrudu sabahya navaneeta, taise sajjanaanche chitta)

Throughout (out and in) soft like the butter is the mind of the sajjanas (noble/righteous people)

(jyaasi apngita naahi, tyaasi dharee jo hrudayee)

who holds them his heart the ones who have none to rely on

(dayaa karaNe putrasee, te chi daasaa aaNi daasee)

he loves his servants the same way he loves his own kids

(tukaa mhaNe saangu kiti, tyaa chi bhagawantaachyaa murti)

Tukarama says, how much to tell about him, they are the direct images of the god.

Translation - Roopa paahata lochani

The Abhanga I am going to post today is very simple, yet very meaningful! Probably this is the beauty of Santa Sahitya of Marathi that the compositions are very simple and very easy to get but they give us the meaning which we can keep on finding all the way through our actions and thoughts!

This Abhanga penned by Dnyaneshwara is sung by many artists including Bhimsen Joshi, it was used in a movie Shree Santa Nivrutti Dnyanadeva, sung by Asha Bhosale.
All these versions are set in different tunes and each one of them sweet in their own manner!
But personally most I love is sung by Carnatic singer duo Ranjani Gayatri. (posting the links at the bottom of the post)

(roopa paahata lochani। sukha zaale ho saajaNi।)
Seeing the beauty (beautiful form) by my eyes, I got the bliss… o friend
(to haa viTThala barawaato haa maadhava barawa।)
That one Vitthala is beautiful, that one Madhava is beautiful
(bahutaa sukrutachi joDi।mhaNuni viTThali aawaDee।)
Multiplying the good deeds, (then only) thus starts the love for Vitthala
(sava sukhace aagaru। baapa rakhumadevivaru।)
Home of all the bliss, (is) father  Rakhuma Devi’s (Rukmini’s) husband [referring to Vitthala]

Film version by Asha Bhosale composed by legendary composer C. Ramachandra - here

Translation of Marathi Abhanga 'maajhe maaher panDhari'

One more Abhanga sung by the great Pandita Bhimsen Joshi, written by Saint-poet Ekanatha (wiki article link) composed by Ram Phatak.

PanDhari (panDharaPura) is my mother’s house which is on the banks of BheemA (bheevaraa) river.
-In Indian context maaher (Kannada
ತವರುಮನೆ tavaru mane/ Hindi मायका maayakaa) or mother’s (parent’s place) house has a lot of importance as the girl leaves it for forever and comes to husband’s house –her own house still,, the hometown, the mom’s place remains her special for forever. Sense of belonging is attached with it. So the poet says that PanDharapura, the abode of Lord ViTThala is the maaher for him.

father and mother, is my Vitthala and Rakhumai (Rukmini)

PunDalika stays as my brother, what should I tell about his fame !?
-Bhakta Pundalika is the person whose devotion is said to have brought Lord Vishnu from his abode VaikunTha to PanDharapura in the form of Lord ViTThala.

my sister is ChandrabhagA (river BheemA is called ChandrabhagA in PanDharapura as it’s course takes the shape of moon crescent here), breaks the sins – makes us free of our sins.

ekA (which also means ‘one’) –ekanatha is devoted to/ surrendered to JanArdana (JanArdana Swamy was the guru of Saint Ekanatha, Guru is seen in very high respect in India and thus poet remembers his Guru in each of his compositions), remembering maaher -the mother’s home, PanDharapura.
